The story we bring into prayer
The Shroud of Turin bears the image of a crucified man. Its relationship to Jesus' burial remains a subject of investigation. In 1998, Saint John Paul II called for careful scientific study and invited believers to contemplate the Gospel through this cloth.
Pope Benedict XVI later reflected on it through Holy Saturday, when Christ lay in the tomb. His meditation placed human loneliness before the love of Christ, who entered death and rose again. We can bring our unanswered questions into that prayer, without pretending they have all been settled.
